Drawing from observation informs my current practice on a regular basis. Depending upon the weather and opportunity, this can be sustained sketching, colour studies or quick visual note-taking. Unlike photography the inevitable selection that drawing demands can help focus the investigation. If nothing else, I find the discipline of looking hard at the subject matter is always illuminating even if the results might be rough and ready.
